הַאֲזִינוּ Shabbat Shalom

We are in the Days of Awe. This week is Shabbat Shuvah or the Shabbat of Return, which refers to the phrase Shuvah Yisrael (Return O Israel) from the Haftorah’s prophecy of Hoshea.

The parshat for this week is Ha’azinu, translated as “listen”  or “give ear” (when told to more than one person) and consists of Deuteronomy 32:1-52.
Ha’azinu contains the Song of Moses and chronicles his final day and address (in song)to the Israelites. Moses summoned heaven and earth to hear his final song, which he sang from the top of Mount Nebo. It is thought that the song was written and placed in the Ark of the Covenant along with the Ten Commandments and Aaron’s staff.
