Food NYC with TENT: Encounters with Jewish Culture


A week-long seminar in New York City, from October 19-26, 2014, for people who love the world of food, hosted by the Center for Jewish History.TENT: FOOD is an immersive, intense, free, week-long workshops for anyone, ages 21 to 30, who’s curious about the connections between Jewishness and modern culture.
 In Tent: Food NYC, participants will come into contact with the richness and variety of modern Jewish food. In this program we’ll learn about cuisine through exploration of cookbook archives, restaurant visits, and cooking workshops. The program will also feature workshops on food writing and developing video series.We will focus on providing participants with historical context as well as hands-on experience. Expect discussions on topics like the following: What defines foods as “Jewish”? What is the significance of food in Jewish history and culture? How is Jewish food evolving in the present, and shaping the national diet?

Tent: Food NYC Workshop is free to accepted participants. If required, lodging will be provided; most meals will be provided. Participants are responsible for their own transportation to and from New York City.For more information about this workshop, email
